2015 will be the 5th year that CHARAC is hosting the Gallery on Main original art reproduced on large vinyl banners hanging on the utility poles in downtown Cable. This project features art by 20+ artists each year and has been a rewarding partnership of the business community and the art community involving our local residents, as well as summer residents and all visitors to our beautiful northwoods.
As we focus on advocacy for the arts by continuing to support and encourage art by all the various residents and visitors of our area, we are “mixing it up bit “ for the art entries this year. CHARAC will be seeking art from the students of the area high schools from the counties of Ashland, Bayfield and Sawyer. Our plan is to toggle annually between a “student emerging artist year” and “established artist year”.
Students will follow the same criteria that established artists have in the past four years. The selection of banners to be displayed will be made by an outside juror or jury committee who understand the unique graphic needs of images that will be viewed by both visitors walking down the street and viewed by passengers in cars traveling 25 to 30 miles an hour down the street.
We are excited about this new effort and are working with the art teachers in the area schools to encourage their student’s participation and to facilitate cooperation in every way possible.
